Windy Halibut Week … Yea it blew! We still got Halibut though.

Weather was an issue this week on the BARBARIAN. It kept us inside and all thought about going outside was diminished with what the weatherman had to say.
The tide and current were great. We knew that going into it and scheduled our trips accordingly.
Our entire weekend was based on the right time to be at Angel Island.  The baits there the fish are definitely there and our success there in weeks prior kept AI on the short list.
Southampton Shoal and Red Rock Shoal were also the ace’s if the wind got too bad for customers. We spent time there as you can see by the pix. We didnt get many pix from AI because it was blowing hard everytime we stopped there.
Wednesday we started off with a bang, landing a fish on our second drift literally on top of Southampton.  We made 3 more drifts at South Hampton for a few shakers. Then off to AI for the start of the ebb. Our first 2 drifts ended with 5 fish in the box. A few drifts later we had another double. Leaving AI with 7 fish, we took off to east side of Alcatraz for a keeper and a few shorts.  Our last drift was at Red Rock for 1 more keeper and no shot at landing our 10th fish.

Thursday the wind became a factor.  Our am was spent at Southampton for 2 fish a (bass and a butt). The afternoon was to be spent at Angel Island again. We toughed it out and couldn’t make anything happen at angel. So back to red Rock for a total of 6 fish
Friday I only had 2 passengers and figured it would be no problem to get these old tough guys some butts.  However my body was a little wrecked from being tossed around in the wind. I fished South Hampton first and boxed a 20 pound halibut.  Then to Treasure Island to get 2 more and finished at AI for 1 more fish.( 4 butts for 2 guys)
It was a great week. Next week we start with a minus tide in the AM, the following week we will be back on the fish looking for Rock cod Salmon or Halibut.
The fishing has been slow, no doubt. I have been staying on the water until about 5:30 pm on the days we fish, giving us every opportunity to get you something for the BBQ.
Thanks Lee
