I found some Halibut ….but……

The past couple of weeks the halibut bite has been just a little off.  Just look at the scores at Emeryville and Berkley. Party boats with 30 rods in the water are getting 1-5 halibut a trip and apparently lacing the fish box with stripers.

The striper bite has been a good gift, considering, the slow halibut action.

Theoretically, the conditions, both weather and tide/current have been bad the past 3 weeks.  Big winds and big tides make whatever you do in the bay a challenge.
We did our best to keep our good customers off the water when the tide and wind were at their worst.
It still didn’t relieve us from our commitment to the fish market. So we did venture out, in search of the ultimate, secret, halibut spot.
We got a chance to see some different water and see if there was halibut there.  On Wednesday we spent some time out in the ocean on the North and South bars and found some promising water that proved to have fish in it. We also fished in the, not so productive, North bay catching sharks and baby halibut.
This week ended with a flurry of fish at Alcatraz as we were trying to get out of the wind.
My new friends from the Mokelumne River Fish Hatchery found success as we boxed 2 halibut for 4 passengers with the big fish going 20+ pounds.
If you like what you’re reading, book a trip! Let’s combine our efforts for a big adventure. We will see some sights and catch some fish and most of all beat the valley heat.

Next week our intention is to get out Wednesday to salmon fish Duxbury and beyond. The possibilities are there .
Rock cod is a possibility and so is halibut on the bars and deeper spots in the central bay.  Its that time of the year. Don't miss your chance at hooking a fish of a lifetime.
If you like sea food now is the time to take home your guaranteed fresh fish and enjoy it.

Good luck!, See you out there!!!!
