2/11/2011 Sturgeon, Nebraska peeps Couldnt find the ice cream truck
I got a call from Tyler,
Tyler is a San Francisco guy who definitely has a passion for fishing and hunting.

He showed up with his mom and dad from Nebraska. What a group of great people. I don’t think I heard a cuss word all day long.

Conversation was great even mom and I were swapping recipes for fish and other creatures. In their 60's they talked allot about what it takes to live in a farm and the efforts necessary to not only survive but how they took everything from the farm. Could you imagine going to the store for nothing but flour and sugar?

The morning was cold, we ran out to San Pablo with the heater on and the doors closed. The shipping channel had 48 degree water, the flats at 8am was a cold 47 degrees.
In my normal pattern, I slowed the boat down put the trim tabs down and went into search pattern looking from 10 to 6 foot of water, looking from the bow out about 20 yards and down to the second or third wave in the prop wash. If you see anything that looks like a fish say it loud. Josh was perched on the roof as we searched for close to an hour with no swirls, jumpers or anything that remotely looked like a sturgeon.

Frustrated and anxious to get the baits out, we stopped in front of Round Mountain in the BIG Rip, 8 foot to start, we were about an hour into the ebb of 4 1/2 foot with current expected to flush at 2.6knots.

The water was warming quickly at 10am we were in 50 degree water and the tide dropped a foot.

A Micro shaker hits the deck. The perfect size to show my new corn husker friends, Shutes’, lips, whiskers, hard heads and sensory tools that make up a sturgeon. National geographic at it’s finest. Back it goes.

The next one is a shaker of 42 inches, the next a 49 1/2 incher, enough to burn a tag for the Nebraska peeps.

Water temp 51F and in approximated depth of 6 foot.

The tide slacked up at 12. As others moved out deeper to catch some current we stayed right there. We ate lunch and kicked back and a few fish got spooked next to the boat. Then just as the tide started to flood we were greeted with another shaker.

The wind came up a little bit and my customers had had enough, back to Martinez at 330pm.
Good day, very good people and hopes of seeing them again for another BARBARIAN adventure.

Ice cream truck?
Have you ever been to a playground ?
(some of you pervs might want to stay away from the playgrounds)
Anyhow, while at the playground an Ice cream truck shows up. The playground is empty.

The Ice cream truck seem to be parked somewhere south and the fish have seemed to vanish. Not gone totally but just not as many as there were the last few weeks.
Interestingly, the fish we caught was full of Herring ROE and all of our fish were caught on salmon roe.
The miracle of the day was the 42 inch fish broke josh off. It took him a few minutes to re-tie. He threw the rod back to the same spot and hooked that fish again. The first leader was stuck in the other side of the fish’s mouth.
