Austin like a Kid in a Candy Store:

Austin like a Kid in a Candy Store:

Austin found BARBARIAN Sportfishing on Craig’s list.  He seemed pretty anxious to get out and get his first keeper sturgeon, a feet that normally takes the average guy 100 hours on the water before they get that opportunity.  You’ll soon see that those guys wasting all that time on the water have yet to book a trip on the BARBARIAN.
Austin found a friend Tyler to go with him. Tyler was an extremely cool dude that definitely needed his sturgeon fix too.
Ready for Friday Austin and Tyler met me at the Benicia Bait shop. We quickly grabbed our bait and drove 2 blocks down to the ramp.
It was cold windy and rainy but it didn’t deter these guys one bit.
We anchored on a bunch of sturgeon in the Big Cut. We got to practice on a few small sturgeon. Austin was keyed in on the rods. And always managed to be where the bite was. Josh gave him the go ahead to swing away. “GET YOU ONE”
We looked around alot making a small run to Montezuma, checked the Horseshoe, and wound up 100 yards from where we started.
The wind was blowing from the North-East and made it really hard on the 1.7 knot tide to sit straight on anchor.
Austin kept at it and Josh worked hard keeping the baits fresh. It felt like 32 degrees all day.
Austin sets the hook on something good. He tussles with this fish for a while. As the fish ran up and down the starboard side of the boat trying its best to get around the prop and outdrive. Austin kept the angles to a minimum and really gave that fish what it had coming to it.
Our first and only keeper sturgeon hits the deck at 54 and ¼ inches. Enough to burn Austin’s first sturgeon tag ever.
Sturgeon Fishing isn’t easy and having to be on the water on a real krappy day made this day some-what painful. Our reward for staying was a great fish for some much appreciated passengers.
Better get in on the sturgeon while you can. Call me, get a date, get your folks together and let’s go make some s#@t happen!

Sincerely,
Capt John Badger
