BIG Fish, Big Egos, and the need to get some weight.

I have been talking to a few local, commercial, guys.  I’m looking for commercial guys to help out while Josh finishes up high school and prepares himself for the Maritime Academy.
Josh has been working hard to finish up an online English class. I can’t pull him off that to go fishing. As a family, we had him quit track because of the importance of this class.  I hope he understands the importance of handling his business.  Equally important is getting him into the Maritime Academy and finishing his 4 years of college and getting out in the job market. He’s on his way to stardom. I Hope!

I found a kid, Cody, to fill Josh’s shoes. Cody is a 19 year old kid who has definitely had some time on boats. He’ has a good mix of skills.  It’s very apparent that he has had some time salmon trolling and he won’t shut up about black bass fishing.  These 2 experiences have preped him well for halibut trolling.
Just in our short time together we have had some incredible days.  What I need is a guy who can work with the customers and be able to stay enthused all day when we commercial fish.  So far he has fulfilled all of my expectations.  Thanks Cody and thanks to Cody’s family for letting him be a part of my operation.

The Fishing:
Halibut fishing has been consistent.  We have been fishing the Alameda Rock wall area.
Our days start in Richmond. The boat ride to Alameda is so much more then a boat ride. We look, and look hard, in the Berkeley Flats for signs of bait and soon to be Halibut. The few minutes we take now, looking, will pay off later. Trust Me!

We didn’t have a Charter this week so we commercial fished for halibut. Cody, Sneaky P and Spoons came down to check out my operation. They wanted to see how we run the gear and generally see how I run the boat. Spoons wants to duplicate what, I do, on his 27foot farallon and Sneaky P just wants to fish.

The bite was slow at best. It gave Cody the opportunity to show the new guys what we do.
The fish finally started to bite. We managed to catch 6 keepers for about 80 pounds total at $6 a pound we covered our expenses and made some new friends. That combined with Wendsdays catch gave us around 160 pounds. Not bad for a slow bite.
I had a great week and want to thank these guys for coming out and sharing a little-bit of their lives with  us.
We have a few trips comming up and the halibut fishing is fantastic with these big fish hanging around . It just takes a little time to get them going in the morning.
This week we deffinitely worked for our fish.
